The Bible mentions lions many times. One of the references it uses them as is our enemy, the devil or the wicked. Us Christians are referenced as sheep. The Lord is our Shepherd. He protects us from lions that want to harm us.
Psalms 10:9 says, “He lurks in a hiding place as a lion in his lair; he lurks to catch the afflicted; he catches the afflicted when he draws him into his net.”
• In this chapter it describes the wicked as lions.
• “The afflicted”, those in trouble or distress.
• “Draws him into his net”, tempts you, sets an easy trap for you.
Psalm 10:8 says, “He sits in the lurking places of the villages; in the hiding places he kills the innocent; his eyes stealthily watch for the unfortunate.”
• The enemy is everywhere around us, constantly trying to trick us.
• “He sits in the villages”, a village is a very popular, busy place. Everyone goes there so it appears safe.
• The enemy will use things & places that appear harmless in order for us to put our guard down.
Psalm 7:2 says, “Or he will tear my soul like a lion, dragging me away, while there is none to deliver.”
• “He” is the enemy.
• The enemy’s main goal is to attack & kill us.
Psalm 7:1 says, “O Lord My God, in You I take refuge; Save me from all those who pursue me, & deliver me.”
• The enemy is constantly pursuing us as prey.
• God is the only one who can deliver us from the enemy.
Daniel 6:22 says, “My God sent His angel & shut the lions’ mouths & they have not harmed me.”
• The lions were ravenously hungry.
• It was no obstacle for the Lord to shut their mouths.
• God did this because Daniel had faith & trust in Him to protect him.
1 Peter 5:8-9 says, “Be of sober mind, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”
Discussion:
The instant we ask God for help he sends an angel to fight for us. Just as, God sent an angel to shut the mouth of the lions for Daniel. We need to be careful & aware of where the enemy may be hiding in our personal lives. We need to stay strong in the Word & in our relationship with Jesus so that we will have the ability to notice our lions & how to handle them properly. If you place your life in God’s hands you will never have to worry or be afraid of the enemy.
Ask yourself:
What are the lions the devil has sent to me today?
Prayer:
“Dear Lord, Let me have the wisdom to notice my lions & their traps today; to ask You for help; & to have the strength to fight. Amen.” ~ BlessedBabe
